George F. Mateo, a 53-year-old man, was last seen on June 10, 1989, fishing near the Mohawk River in Amsterdam, New York. Mateo had been fishing on the north side of the river close to Lock 10 of the barge canal. His car was discovered abandoned the following day on Conrail property, located on the opposite side of the river from where he was last seen. Despite an extensive search of the river and surrounding areas, no sign of Mateo was found.
