In the autumn of 1994, 64-year-old Robert Jerome Brand was last seen by a friend in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The two had been closing up a trailer that Brand used as a fishing cottage. Hailing from Howard City in Montcalm County, Robert was a man who enjoyed fishing, particularly at Isle Royale National Park. Physically, he stood at 5'11" and weighed around 200 pounds, with graying hair that was possibly balding, and blue eyes. He wore bifocal eyeglasses and dentures and walked with a limp due to surviving polio as a child. His son would officially report him as a missing person in July of 1995. The circumstances surrounding Robert Brand's disappearance are unsettling. When he was last seen, he left behind his car, boats, and other personal belongings. His only source of income was Social Security checks, which ceased after he went missing, and he never made any attempt to have them reinstated. His family described him as being in good health and not suicidal, stating it was uncharacteristic of him to simply walk away from his life. Investigators have found no record of him having any contact with law enforcement since his disappearance. Authorities suspect foul play in Robert's case and are investigating it as a potential homicide. Despite the passage of time, his case remains open, and investigators continue to seek any information that could shed light on what happened to him. Fingerprint and dental records are available for comparison, but no DNA profile exists. The lack of significant leads over the years has left his family without answers and his case an unsolved mystery. The overview of the case suggests a man who seemingly vanished, leaving behind all his possessions and a life he was not known to be unhappy with, leading authorities to believe he did not disappear of his own accord.
