On a Sunday evening in early September 1996, 24-year-old Claudia Tinsley was last seen outside her home on Baker Street in Toledo, Ohio. At approximately 8:15 p.m., she was observed getting into a blue Chevrolet sedan driven by a white male. Sensing that something was amiss, Tinsley had the foresight to ask her mother to write down the vehicle's license plate number in case she did not return. She was a mother to three children, and despite having a criminal record and struggles with drug use, it was considered highly uncharacteristic of her to leave without any communication with her family. Tinsley was wearing a white halter top and blue and white shorts at the time of her disappearance. She had several distinct tattoos: a dollar sign between the thumb and index finger of her left hand, an ink spot on her wrist, and the initials "S/L" on her left ankle. The license plate number that Tinsley's mother wrote down led investigators to a man named James Worley. When questioned, Worley admitted to picking up Tinsley in the vicinity of Summit and Cherry streets with the intention of engaging in a sexual encounter. He claimed that after driving around with her for a period, which included a stop at her mother's house, he dropped her off at an undisclosed location and had not seen her since. At the time of his initial interview, there was not enough evidence to connect him directly to her disappearance. Worley had a prior conviction for abduction from 1990, for which he served a short prison sentence. Years later, in 2016, Worley would be convicted for the abduction and murder of another woman, Sierah Joughin. This development prompted investigators to search Worley's property for any evidence related to Tinsley's case, but the search did not yield any new leads. Foul play is strongly suspected in Claudia Tinsley's disappearance, and her case remains an unsolved mystery that has left her family searching for answers for decades. The investigation into her vanishing was complicated by the fact that several other local women, some of whom were also involved in sex work, were murdered or went missing around the same time. While a serial killer confessed to some of these crimes, it has not been definitively determined if Tinsley's case is connected. Tragically, another blow struck the family when one of Tinsley's children died in an accidental fire the year after she disappeared. Despite the passage of time and the connection to a convicted murderer, no concrete evidence has surfaced to resolve what happened to Claudia Tinsley after she got into the blue car on that September evening.
