Kayla Rose Mason, a 23-year-old mother, was last seen in Toledo, Ohio, around July 31, 2019. At the time of her disappearance, she was living with her grandparents, employed full-time, and was a mother to a four-year-old daughter. Concerns for her welfare grew when she failed to show up for her job. Kayla had recently been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and was reportedly not taking her medication for the latter condition. She had also been experiencing suicidal thoughts around the time she went missing. A note was discovered that she had left behind, in which she expressed that she was "bad at goodbyes." She took with her an inactive cell phone, a tent, some clothing, and a few other personal items, but the majority of her belongings were left at her grandparents' residence. Initially, the circumstances surrounding Kayla's disappearance led to a delay in a formal investigation. Due to the note she left and the fact that she was an adult, law enforcement did not immediately classify her as a missing person, suggesting she may have left voluntarily. This left her family to conduct their own searches for the first five months, contacting her friends and checking hospitals and jails, but they were unable to find any trace of her. It wasn't until December 2019, after media attention brought more focus to her case, that the Toledo Police Department officially listed her as a missing person and opened an investigation. It is considered uncharacteristic of Kayla to not be in contact with her family, especially her young daughter and her mother. Despite the passage of time, there have been no significant leads in solving Kayla Mason's disappearance. Her family, including her mother who is now raising Kayla's daughter, continues to hold out hope for answers. Several reported sightings have been investigated but none have been confirmed to be Kayla. The Toledo Police Department has stated that they have remained in contact with Kayla's mother but have no new information to report. Kayla is described as a biracial female with brown hair and green eyes. She has several distinct tattoos, including an infinity symbol on her right wrist, the numbers "1996" and "2015" across her knuckles, and a rose and vine design on her right shoulder. The investigation into what happened to Kayla Mason remains open, with her loved ones still seeking closure.
