Robert Charlton Miller, aged 30, was last seen on February 1, 1997, in San Diego, California. On that day, Miller rented a 19-foot fishing boat from Seaforth Boat Rentals to go fishing in the Pacific Ocean. He departed around 9:45 a.m., but at 11:00 a.m., a passing boater found the boat adrift with no one aboard. The boat's motor was off, the keys were in the ignition, and fishing equipment, including a baited rod and a life vest, were still on board.
An extensive search by lifeguards, the Coast Guard, and helicopters yielded no trace of Miller. His vehicle, a white Toyota sedan, was found in the rental company’s parking lot. Authorities believe that Miller likely drowned accidentally while fishing, as no signs of foul play or suicide have been uncovered. At the time of his disappearance, Miller was living alone in La Jolla, California, and worked as an engineer at Solar Turbines. His body has never been recovered, and the case remains unsolved.
