He was visiting friends in the Spring Branch area of Houston before planning to head to Brenham, Texas, to purchase a used Harley Davidson motorcycle. His intended destination was his home in Marble Falls, Texas. However, Melvin never arrived in Brenham and has not been heard from since.
His black Chevrolet pickup truck was found abandoned a few blocks away from a friend's house in Spring Branch, with his Texas driver’s license inside the vehicle. Notably, his dog, Lucky, which usually accompanied him, was also missing. At the time of his disappearance, Melvin had graying brown hair, green eyes, and facial scars near his left eye and cheek. He was also known to wear trifocal glasses and typically dressed in jeans, a plain t-shirt, and sneakers.
