Eric Brown, a 14-year-old boy from Vero Beach, Florida, went missing on October 7, 2007. He was last seen at an unguarded beach south of South Beach Park, where he had been spending time with a group of friends. The incident occurred when one of his female friends began to struggle in the water due to a strong current. Eric heroically swam out to help her, holding her above the water until a lifeguard could reach her.
Unfortunately, while attempting this rescue, a large wave dragged Eric under the water, and he did not resurface.
Despite efforts to locate him, Eric's body was never recovered. A few days after the incident, his boxer shorts were found washed ashore at Riomar Beach, located north of where the incident occurred. Eric is presumed to have drowned during this tragic event, and no further evidence of his whereabouts has been found since then.
