Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Bengie had been traveling through Montana with her boyfriend, James Clemons, selling meat door-to-door. She had been staying at the Chateau Rouge motel in Billings before her disappearance. On Thanksgiving Day, she briefly spoke to her parents and her son, who were visiting family in Florida, marking her last known contact with loved ones. After that, she vanished without a trace.
According to Clemons, they had an argument, and he claimed that Bengie wanted to leave. He reportedly dropped her off at a truck stop where she got into a white SUV, though this account has raised questions, as Bengie had been driving a blue 1999 Chevrolet Silverado truck. Both she and the truck have been missing ever since.
Investigators later discovered that the truck, which had a tracking device, was last located in Portland, Oregon, before the tracker was disabled in January 2010. Despite this clue, neither the vehicle nor Bengie has been found.
