Peggy Jo DeCoteau, age 40, went missing on July 4, 1979, while staying at the Big Sky Motel in Superior, Montana, with her husband, Earl. The couple was traveling from their home in Maple Valley, Washington, to visit relatives in North Dakota. According to Earl, when he woke up around 11:00 p.m., Peggy and her belongings, including her purse and travel bag, were gone.
He did not report her missing until nine days later, after he unsuccessfully attempted to locate her by contacting friends and family.
Peggy and Earl had reportedly been experiencing marital difficulties, and initial theories suggested she might have left voluntarily. However, after her credit cards remained unused and further investigation found no trace of her, foul play became the suspected cause of her disappearance. Despite multiple searches, no new leads have surfaced, and Peggy’s case remains unsolved.
