Ellen Beth Sloan, a 52-year-old woman from Polson, Montana, has been missing since April 16, 2005. She was last seen at her home, located near the 3000 block of South Shore Route. Her disappearance is surrounded by several unusual circumstances. At the time, she was facing federal charges related to tax evasion but was cooperating with authorities and had been released on her own recognizance.
Despite this, she vanished before attending her son's college graduation, an event her family states she would not have missed.
On April 28, 2005, Sloan’s silver 2002 Toyota Tundra was discovered abandoned in a Missoula shopping center near the airport. Her vehicle was packed with personal belongings, suggesting travel, but her passport and a significant amount of money remained untouched in her bank accounts. These findings make it unlikely that she fled due to legal troubles, especially since her charges carried minimal prison time.
Adding further complexity to the case, Ellen had recently posted bail for her boyfriend, William Gholson, who was facing serious criminal charges for incest. He lived with Ellen before her disappearance and used her name to obtain credit cards. Ten days after Ellen was last seen, her son ordered Gholson out of the house, and Gholson subsequently disappeared for a time. Although authorities have never charged Gholson in connection with her disappearance, he remains a person of interest, as investigators believe he may hold crucial information regarding the case.
