Barbara Jean Paciotti, a 20-year-old woman from Minneapolis, Minnesota, disappeared on June 14, 1969, while visiting her parents in Hibbing. That night, she was last seen near Sammy's Pizza in downtown Hibbing, getting into a car driven by her boyfriend, Jeffrey Dolinich. According to reports, the two had an argument while in the car, after which Dolinich claimed he left her and later woke up in Mora, Minnesota, with no memory of where Paciotti had gone.
When Dolinich's car was searched, police found Paciotti’s purse with a broken strap and her identification inside. Further suspicion arose when Dolinich was found with muddied clothes in his apartment, though some items, like a pair of pants, had been removed by his mother before investigators could retrieve them. Dolinich also sent a cryptic, remorseful letter to Paciotti's family, indicating he had hit her and believed she might be dead, but he could not recall what had happened next.
Multiple searches for Paciotti, including large-scale efforts in and around the Hibbing area, turned up no evidence. Despite being considered the primary suspect, Dolinich was never formally charged due to a lack of physical evidence. He later died in 2013 without providing further information. Paciotti’s case remains unsolved, with authorities believing she met with foul play, though her body has never been found.
