On October 15, 2023, 37-year-old Ingrid Lane was last seen in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. She had departed from her Albuquerque home early on October 14, 2023, to visit the Bodhi Manda Zen Center, a place she had frequented for meditation retreats. After spending the night, she participated in a group meditation the following morning before leaving for what was believed to be a solo hike in the Jemez Mountains. Her husband reported her missing three days later when she did not return home.
Ingrid was an avid hiker and enjoyed spending time in nature, though she had a congenital lung impairment that could make hiking at high elevations challenging.
Ingrid's black 2019 Subaru Impreza was located by her husband using an Apple AirTag on a remote dirt road, Forest Road 144, at an elevation of 9,100 feet. The vehicle had a smashed rear window. Witnesses reported seeing Ingrid near her car on the day she disappeared. Two hunters came forward stating that a woman, believed to be Ingrid, had flagged them down for help with a damaged tire on the afternoon of October 15th. They assisted her with the tire and offered her a ride, which she declined, stating her intention to reach the top of a mountain. Inside her abandoned vehicle, a new, unopened burner phone was discovered.
Extensive search and rescue operations were launched in the rugged terrain where her car was found, involving canine units and drones, but no significant clues to her whereabouts were immediately discovered. Her family, including her twin sister and mother who traveled from Oregon, organized efforts to find her, including creating a GoFundMe to finance a helicopter search. In November 2023, a personal item belonging to Ingrid was found about a mile from where her car was located, prompting another search that unfortunately yielded no further evidence. The investigation into Ingrid Lane's disappearance is being handled by the Albuquerque Police Department and the Sandoval County Sheriff's Office.
