In the spring of 1979, the life of 34-year-old Gaetano "Guy" Vallese took a mysterious and troubling turn. A resident of Fishkill, New York, he was last seen on the evening of May 14, 1979, at approximately 8:30 p.m., driving northbound on the New York State Thruway, seemingly leaving New York City behind. Known to his loved ones as Guy, he was a father who, despite being estranged from his wife, had a commitment to his children. At the time of his disappearance, Gaetano was described as a white male, standing 5'8" and weighing around 150 pounds, with brown hair that was beginning to bald in the front, and brown eyes. He wore a thick mustache and had a distinctive tattoo on his right arm of a cross inside a heart with the words "In Memory of Mom." The days following his last known sighting were filled with growing concern. When Gaetano failed to arrive to pick up his daughters as scheduled, his estranged wife reported him missing. The initial search for answers led investigators to his home on Smithtown Road in Fishkill on May 23. There, they found his blue 1977 Chevrolet parked, but of Gaetano, there was no sign. A search of his residence revealed nothing out of the ordinary; no indications of a struggle or forced entry were found, and it did not appear that any of his personal belongings were missing. The scene at his home only deepened the mystery surrounding his sudden and unexplained absence. As the investigation progressed, authorities began to explore various possibilities regarding Gaetano's disappearance. One angle that emerged was his potential involvement with organized crime in New York City. This connection led investigators to seek out an associate of his known as Teddy Cohen, who hailed from the Bronx. However, this person of interest was never located, and it is believed that "Teddy Cohen" may have been an alias. Without any clear evidence of foul play, investigators have been unable to rule out the possibility that Gaetano may have gone into hiding, perhaps even entering a witness protection program. Decades have passed since Gaetano Vallese was last seen, and his case remains an open and unsolved mystery. The New York State Police continue to seek any information that might shed light on his whereabouts and the circumstances of his disappearance. Age-progressed images have been created to show what he might look like in his later years, a poignant reminder of the passage of time and the enduring questions that haunt his family. The case of Gaetano Vallese serves as a somber illustration of how a person can vanish, leaving behind a life and a family to grapple with the uncertainty of their fate.
