In the summer of 1981, a 34-year-old U.S. Military Veteran named Alma Louise O'Con, affectionately known as "Weezie," found herself seeking respite at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She had been admitted to the hospital to receive care for extreme stress and exhaustion. A comforting routine had been established during her stay; each evening, her mother and aunt would visit her in the hospital's lobby. However, on a warm June night, this familiar pattern was broken. Alma was seen descending the stairs from her room alone, carrying only a glass of milk. The last person to report seeing her was a security guard on the hospital grounds. After that brief sighting, Alma Louise O'Con vanished and has not been seen or heard from since. At the time of her disappearance, Alma was described as a white female, standing between 5'3" and 5'6" tall and weighing approximately 115 to 130 pounds. She had long, thick black or brown hair and hazel or brown eyes. There are conflicting reports about the clothing she was wearing on the day she went missing. One account describes her in a red plaid shirt and blue jeans, while another states she was wearing a blue and white shirt with her blue jeans. She was also said to be wearing tan shoes. Alma's ears are pierced, a small but potentially identifying detail in a case with frustratingly few clues. The investigation into Alma's disappearance was initiated by the Shreveport Police Department, but with no immediate leads, the case quickly grew cold. Over the years, various online groups dedicated to finding missing persons have taken an interest in Alma's case, but their efforts have not yielded any new information beyond the initial police report. Despite the passage of decades, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance from the VA hospital grounds remain a mystery. The case is a poignant example of the many unsolved missing person cases in Louisiana, with organizations like the LSU FACES Laboratory working to keep the memories of individuals like Alma alive and continue the search for answers. The lack of progress has been a source of enduring pain for those who knew and loved her, leaving them to wonder what became of "Weezie" after she walked out of the hospital on that June night.
