On November 27, 1993, 42-year-old Gregory Cook, a male resident of Oswego, New York, disappeared under circumstances that point to a tragic accident on Lake Ontario. He was working on a barge that was being towed when it encountered severe weather. The location of the incident was approximately 11 miles east of Oswego and 9 miles north of Nine Mile Point. It is believed that the vessel succumbed to the inclement weather and sank. Cook has not been seen or heard from since that day. At the time of his disappearance, Gregory Cook was described as being 5'9" tall and weighing 155 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He had a few distinguishing features, including a scar near his left eye and another on his right knee. He also had a pierced left ear. When he was last seen, he was wearing a silver wedding band that had a gold star pattern. The New York State Police in Pulaski are the primary agency investigating his disappearance. Despite the passage of time, Gregory Cook's case remains open. The official belief is that he was the victim of a boating accident caused by severe weather on Lake Ontario. Extensive search efforts were made to locate him, but unfortunately, his body was never recovered. The overview of this case is that of a man presumed to be lost at sea due to a sudden and severe storm, a heartbreaking event that has left his loved ones without closure for decades.
