David Barnes, a 70-year-old man, was last seen in Manhattan, New York, on September 7, 1997. Barnes lived in a three-bedroom apartment at Amsterdam Houses, where he had previously worked as the building superintendent before retiring. In the months leading up to his disappearance, Barnes invited his estranged grandson, Martin Lewis, to move in with him. Barnes stopped contacting his family in October 1997, and Lewis provided conflicting stories about his whereabouts.
