In the early morning hours of July 1, 1999, 46-year-old Louis Shack began his day like any other, leaving his home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, between 4:00 and 4:15 a.m.. He was on his way to his job in the nearby town of Rison, a familiar routine for the married father.
