In the note, he expressed his gratitude for their hospitality and explained that he was leaving to attend truck driving school, promising to be in touch once he was settled. However, that promised contact never came, and Walter Wilson was never seen or heard from by his family again.
At the time of his disappearance, Walter was described as a white male, standing at 6'1' and weighing between 225 and 250 pounds. He had graying brown hair styled in a crew cut with a thinning spot at the crown, a mustache, and blue eyes. He had a few distinguishing characteristics, including untreated bad knees and a need for reading glasses, which he often purchased from Walmart. His typical attire consisted of size 46x30 blue jeans, a size 2X shirt or a dress shirt with a 17 1/2 neck, white crew or ankle socks, and size 13DDD white tennis shoes. When he left, he took with him an olive green, four-foot-long duffel bag that he had from his time in the U.S. Navy.
