Charles Howard Bolter, a 69-year-old retired cattle rancher from Waterford, California, disappeared on December 23, 1972. His disappearance came just nine days after he was robbed of $30,000 by three men. The thieves forced Bolter to drive them to multiple banks, where he withdrew and handed over the money. Following the robbery, Bolter reportedly became despondent, which has led authorities and his family to believe that he may have taken his own life.
However, his body has never been found, and his case remains unsolved.
On the day of his disappearance, Bolter's pickup truck was found abandoned along Highway 132, with the keys still in the ignition. Despite extensive searches and ongoing investigations, there have been no definitive leads as to what happened to him.
