Lourdes Dubyak, a 28-year-old woman, went missing on August 11, 1985, from her home in Chino, California. At the time of her disappearance, Lourdes was having marital problems and was reportedly considering a divorce from her husband, Samuel Allen Dubyak. The couple was sleeping in separate bedrooms, and Lourdes was last seen at their residence on Kumquat Road. However, Samuel did not report her missing; it was Lourdes’ relatives in Puerto Rico who filed the missing persons report on August 27.

The investigation into her disappearance revealed disturbing evidence. Authorities found bloodstains in Lourdes' bedroom and a trail of blood leading to the garage. Their three-year-old daughter told investigators she saw her mother "asleep," wrapped in a blanket, and being taken away in a green pickup truck. Furthermore, a bloodstained mattress with a bullet hole and a .22 caliber bullet were discovered near the family's home. Despite the absence of a body, Samuel was convicted of her murder in 1987 and sentenced to 27 years to life in prison. Lourdes' body was never recovered, and Samuel has always maintained his innocence.

Although Samuel was considered for parole in 2014, the decision was overturned by the governor because he had not admitted guilt or shown remorse for his wife's death.
