At the time of his disappearance, Fox was involved in a lawsuit against his business partner, actor Johnny Depp, and several others over financial discrepancies related to their nightclub, The Viper Room. Fox accused Depp and his associates of fraud and mismanagement, claiming millions of dollars had been diverted from the club's profits.
He was scheduled to testify in the case shortly before he vanished.
Fox's disappearance was mysterious and alarming. Along with him, his red pickup truck and a .38 caliber revolver were also missing. On January 6, 2002, his truck was found abandoned in Santa Clara, California, about 330 miles from his home.
