Shawn Dickerson, a 23-year-old man, was last seen on December 2, 2011, in San Francisco, California. On that day, Shawn left his apartment in a hurry, telling his roommates that he was late for work. However, he never arrived at his job at Rolo, a men’s clothing store on Market Street. The day before, he had left work early without finishing his shift and had texted his boss later that night.
His boss expressed concerns about his reliability, but Shawn did not mention this issue to his roommates.
Instead of going to work on the day he disappeared, Shawn spent the day walking around the city, taking photos, and posting 16 images to his Facebook account in the afternoon. This was unusual for him, and these posts were the last known signs of him. Shawn left behind his belongings, including a jacket he would have typically taken if he had planned to travel far, and has not been heard from since.
There is speculation that Shawn’s disappearance may be connected to mental health struggles or even suicide, but there is no definitive evidence of foul play. His disappearance has also been linked to a group of cases involving young men who went missing from the San Francisco area around the same time, known as the “California Five,” though no clear connections have been established.
