Wastrodowski was last seen around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Clay and Walnut Streets in the Presidio Heights area. Earlier that day, he had made a phone call to his parents in Southern California, asking them to come to San Francisco and take him home. However, he was never heard from again.
After his disappearance, his belongings, including his jacket, shirt, wallet, and keys, were found in Presidio Park.
Wastrodowski had been struggling with mental health issues, including depression, for which he was prescribed medication in 2014. In the months leading up to his disappearance, he had stopped taking his medication and had been displaying signs of delusional behavior, which contributed to concerns about his well-being. At the time, he lived in the Mission District and was a regular visitor to popular spots like Mission Dolores Park and the Phone Booth Bar.
