In the late fall of 2011, a young boy named Amir D'Rod Jennings vanished from Columbia, South Carolina, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a family desperate for his return. Eighteen-month-old Amir was last seen around Thanksgiving of that year with his mother, Zinah Damaris Jennings. Concern for the toddler's welfare grew when his maternal grandmother, Jocelyn Jennings Nelson, reported both him and his mother missing in early December.
Nelson had become alarmed after her daughter provided evasive answers about Amir's whereabouts. The family's worst fears were heightened on Christmas Eve when Zinah Jennings was involved in a single-car accident in Columbia. While Zinah was located, her young son was nowhere to be found.
Following the accident, Zinah Jennings's statements to law enforcement were inconsistent and alarming. Initially, she claimed not to have any children, but later offered a series of conflicting stories, suggesting Amir was with various friends or relatives in different cities, including Atlanta and Charlotte.
