Michael Steven Bickel, a 54-year-old man from Portage, Indiana, was last seen on March 9, 2012. He left his home that day with plans to visit Lake Michigan but never returned. His green 2012 Subaru was later found and impounded near the lakefront. Disturbingly, Bickel had left two suicide notes, one of which indicated his intention to swim from Portage Lakefront Park to Navy Pier in Chicago, a challenging 30-mile journey across Lake Michigan.
