Frank Oliva, a 76-year-old man from Wilbur, Nebraska, was last seen on the evening of July 28, 1973. Along with his wife, Mary, the couple left their home sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. in their beige 1958 Chevrolet. They were never seen again. Neighbors reported seeing them briefly return home before leaving again, and they were reported missing several days later, on August 3, 1973, when their son noticed newspapers and milk deliveries piling up at their residence.
The front door of their home was found unlocked, but no signs of disturbance were evident. Mary's medications and her black purse, items she typically carried, were left behind.
The couple’s disappearance remains a mystery. Although Frank was a retired mason and carpenter, he occasionally worked odd jobs. Before their disappearance, Frank had purchased a road map, which raised questions about their plans. Some theories suggest that Frank, who was reportedly upset about his wife’s declining health, may have driven their car into a nearby body of water, potentially ending both their lives to avoid placing Mary in a nursing home. Despite searches of local sandpits and other bodies of water, no trace of the couple or their vehicle has been found.
The Olivas were declared legally dead seven years after their disappearance, but their bodies have never been recovered, and their case remains unsolved to this day.
