She boarded a train and traveled to the suburban village of Cary to spend the night at her friend's home, located in the 200 block of Northwest Highway. The following day, she was reportedly seen walking along Route 14 in Cary. There is a possibility that she was attempting to make her way to a train station in either Cary or the nearby town of Fox River Grove. Tragically, after this last sighting, Wendy was never seen or heard from again, leaving behind a void of information and a case with very few leads for investigators to follow.
Wendy's physical appearance at the time of her disappearance was that of an Asian female with black hair and brown eyes, standing at a height of approximately 4 feet 11 inches to 5 feet tall and weighing between 100 and 110 pounds. Her hair was styled short, possibly shaved on top and longer in the back. When she was last seen, she was wearing black pants and a distinctive red St. Edward's school jacket that had the name 'April' stitched in red lettering on the front. She also had with her a silver crucifix and two sets of rosary beads, one black and the other transparent. It is also known that Wendy was living with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
The investigation into Wendy Kimura's disappearance has been ongoing for many years, with the Cary Police Department handling the case. Over time, the case grew cold due to the limited information available. However, in 2013, fourteen years after she vanished, a glimmer of hope emerged when new information came to light, prompting a renewed search effort by law enforcement. This new lead led investigators and search teams to conduct a thorough search along the banks of the Fox River in the Cary area. Despite these efforts, nothing significant was found.
