In the autumn of 1997, 38-year-old Jean M. Jape, a mother of two, vanished from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. At the time of her disappearance, she and her daughter were residing with her parents. Her daughter later recounted that her mother had mentioned plans to spend a weekend at a friend's house, which was the last she heard from her.
