Mark Allan Nichter, a 50-year-old pediatric intensive care doctor from St. Petersburg, Florida, went missing on December 15, 2009, while piloting a small aircraft. He had been flying a Cirrus SR22 single-engine plane, which he took off from Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg. His last known communication occurred at approximately 9,900 feet, while he was 140 miles southwest of St. Petersburg, flying over the Gulf of Mexico.
