In the autumn of 1915, a sixteen-year-old boy named Noel Elijah Davis made preparations to leave his home in Reno, Nevada. He was embarking on a journey to the San Francisco Bay Area in California to visit his older sister, Irene Agnes Brennan, and her husband, Edward.
