Barry Alan Block, a 24-year-old resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, went missing on June 22, 1988, along with his roommate, David Rhodes. The two men lived in Drake Towers, an apartment complex in the city. Both vanished under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind personal items such as Rhodes' cellphone and briefcase, with no indication that they had planned to be away for long. The air conditioning was left running in their apartment, suggesting they had intended to return soon.
