In the early morning hours of September 30, 2013, in Heflin, Alabama, sixteen-year-old Marta Ramirez Mendez was seen for the last time at her residence in the Hollis Crossroads area. At the time, she was a student at Cleburne County High School and lived with her sister, brother-in-law, and their children. Her family grew concerned and reported her missing when she did not come home from school later that day.
