In the autumn of 2013, a 16-year-old female named Jamekia Shaneice Sabb vanished from her home in Charlotte, North Carolina. On November 22nd, she was seen for the last time leaving her residence on Donna Drive. At the time of her disappearance, Jamekia was described as a Black female, standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds. She had black hair styled with blonde extensions and brown eyes. Her distinctive features included piercings in her ears, navel, and lip, along with a tattoo of the word 'Choppa' with colored stars on her shoulder. She was last seen wearing a black thermal sweater with 'Kings' written on it, army fatigue pants, and white Nike shoes.
Initially, Jamekia's case was classified as that of an endangered runaway, and authorities believed she had left of her own accord. This classification, coupled with minimal media coverage, meant that search efforts were not extensive in the beginning. Her family and loved ones held onto hope for her safe return, but as days turned into months, and then years, without any contact or social media activity, their concern grew into a belief that she may have met with harm. The silence from Jamekia, who was also known by the nicknames Mekia and Mama, was uncharacteristic and deeply troubling to those who knew her.
Years after she was last seen, efforts to bring renewed attention to Jamekia's case emerged. A petition was created in 2019 to encourage a fresh and thorough investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and to garner more media attention.
