Nancy Wilcox, a 16-year-old cheerleader from Holladay, Utah, went missing on October 2, 1974. She was last seen leaving her home to purchase a pack of gum, and witnesses reported seeing her riding in a yellow Volkswagen Bug near her residence. Initially, authorities believed Nancy may have run away, as no immediate signs of foul play were discovered. However, as more young women began to vanish in Utah around the same time, investigators began to suspect something far more sinister.

Nancy Wilcox is believed to have been one of the first Utah victims of serial killer Ted Bundy. Bundy later confessed to abducting Nancy at knifepoint, assaulting her, and killing her. He claimed that he buried her body near Capitol Reef National Park, located approximately 200 miles from where she was last seen. Despite his confession, Nancy’s remains have never been recovered, and her case remains open. Nancy’s disappearance marked the beginning of a series of abductions and murders attributed to Bundy in the region.

Her tragic case is part of a broader pattern of young women who fell victim to Bundy during the 1970s, although Bundy's arrest came too late to save Nancy and many others. Her disappearance continues to be a painful chapter in Utah's criminal history, with lingering questions about the full extent of Bundy's crimes.
