Mervin Leo Walvatne, a 53-year-old man, was last seen on July 18, 1990, in Spencer, Iowa. He led a transient lifestyle and was known to travel frequently between Iowa and Arizona, particularly in the Yuma and Tucson areas. Mervin had a history of alcoholism and had previously sustained severe facial injuries from a car accident in the 1970s, which required surgery and implants. Despite this, he stayed in regular contact with his sister, who lived in Spencer.
