In the pre-dawn hours of January 18, 2014, Jonathan "Jon" Schaff, a 24-year-old man from Fair Haven, Vermont, vanished after a night out at the Riverside Pub in Granville, New York. At approximately 4:30 AM, Jonathan left the bar on foot and was last seen walking east on Route 149, heading toward the Vermont state line. Earlier that evening, he had been involved in an altercation that resulted in his glasses being broken and a minor laceration on his scalp. He was last seen wearing a grey or light-blue hooded sweatshirt, a dark brown Carhartt jacket, blue jeans, and brown work boots. Jonathan is described as a white male, with brown hair and blue eyes, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing around 165 to 170 pounds. He has several distinctive tattoos, including a spider web on his left hand and an eagle on his calf. The circumstances immediately following his departure from the pub remain uncertain. Two individuals who had met Jonathan that night offered him a ride and began walking with him towards their vehicle. They reported that Jonathan walked ahead of them and, after they briefly stopped, he disappeared from their sight. He never arrived at their car and has not been seen or heard from since. The initial response to his disappearance involved extensive searches of the area by law enforcement, which unfortunately yielded no signs of Jonathan. A significant development in the case came a few days later when his cell phone was discovered in the cab of a tractor-trailer parked at a trucking company in Pawlet, Vermont, near the Mettawee River. This discovery led authorities to believe he may have entered the river, prompting numerous searches of the waterway over the following months, but these efforts proved fruitless. Over the years, the investigation into Jonathan Schaff's disappearance has continued, with both the Granville Police Department and the Vermont State Police actively involved. The case has been fraught with rumors and theories, but no concrete evidence has emerged to explain what happened to him. The individual with whom he had the altercation was investigated but has not been named as a suspect. Authorities have considered the possibility of foul play or that he succumbed to the elements, as it was a cold January night. Despite numerous ground, air, and water searches, no trace of Jonathan has ever been found, and his case remains an unsolved and deeply felt loss for his family and community.
