Louis "Billy" Hogan Jr., a 28-year-old pilot from Houlton, Maine, went missing on May 2, 1972, during a flight from Danbury, Connecticut, to Houlton. Hogan was piloting a new single-engine Citabria aircraft and was expected to land at Houlton International Airport later that day. However, communication was lost after he issued a mayday call to the Portland air traffic control tower, reporting that he was low on fuel and flying through poor weather conditions.
