On September 15, 1979, 17-year-old Patty McDaniel and her fraternal twin sister, Peggy, went missing from Pompano Beach, Florida. The two girls had recently moved to Pompano Beach from Live Oak, Florida, where they had been living with their father and his new wife. Patty and Peggy had grown up together with their mother in New Jersey but relocated to Florida earlier in 1979.
Shortly before their disappearance, the twins became friends with two men, 19-year-old Marvin Warren and 36-year-old Eddie Gross. The four of them moved into an apartment together in Pompano Beach, and the girls quickly sent a letter to their mother asking for help to return to New Jersey. However, before any plans could be made, Patty and Peggy vanished.
On the night of their disappearance, the girls, along with a man named Nelson George Johnson, were reportedly heading to a disco club called "The Plank." Four days later, Johnson's body was found in the trunk of his car, the victim of a homicide. It was speculated that Patty and Peggy may have witnessed his murder, but they were never seen again. Despite various leads, such as their bicycles being found and possible sightings at a truck stop, no trace of the twins has been found, and their case remains unsolved.
Their disappearance has haunted their family for decades, and authorities continue to seek any information that could provide answers. The case is classified as endangered missing, and foul play is strongly suspected.
