Athena Sheetz, a 1-year-old girl, was last seen on January 3, 2010, in Lynn, Massachusetts. She went missing alongside her older sister, Thanit Sheetz-Marti, who was 3 years old at the time. The sisters are believed to have been abducted by their non-custodial mother, Mireia Marti, and may have traveled to Spain. The family was in Spain visiting the children's maternal grandmother when their father, Jonathan Sheetz, was served with a restraining order and separated from his children.
Since then, he has not seen his daughters.
Despite his efforts, including applying for their return under the Hague Convention, legal complications and delays in Spain have prevented the return of Athena and her sister. Jonathan Sheetz was granted sole custody in the United States, but the Spanish courts have not recognized the ruling, further complicating the case. The girls are still believed to be in the Barcelona area.
