In the late morning of what has been described as a rainy day, a young mother named Regina McCorkle, known affectionately as Gina, disappeared from her home in East Moline, Illinois. The 19-year-old lived with her mother and her young son. On the morning of her disappearance, her mother left for work around 8:30 a.m. Regina spoke with her boyfriend on the phone later that morning, ending the call around 9:30 a.m. with plans to pick him up so he could apply for a job.
