In the spring of 1996, a quiet morning in Natchitoches, Louisiana, marked the beginning of a lasting mystery for the family of Doris Brown, Sr. On May 22nd, the 63-year-old man left his home on McDobson Way with the simple intention of walking to a nearby store. It was approximately 8:00 a.m. when he set out, a routine event in an ordinary day that would become anything but. His family expected him to return shortly, but he was never seen or heard from again. The hours turned into days, and the days have since stretched into decades, leaving his loved ones with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss that has not diminished with the passage of time. At the time of his disappearance, Doris Brown, Sr. was described as a Black man, standing between 6 feet and 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighing around 190 pounds. He had graying or black hair, brown eyes, and a mustache. On the day he vanished, he was wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. These articles of clothing are the last known details connected to his presence in the world. He left his home on foot and did not take any vehicle, seemingly planning for a short trip from which he would soon return. His sudden and complete disappearance from the familiar streets of his neighborhood was alarming and out of character. The investigation into the disappearance of Doris Brown, Sr. was launched, but has yielded very few answers over the years. Despite the efforts of the Natchitoches Police Department, no significant leads have ever been developed to explain what happened to him after he left his residence that morning. His case remains an open and unsolved missing persons investigation, a cold case that has left a family in limbo for more than two decades. The lack of information and progress has been a source of ongoing pain for his relatives. The overview of this case is that of a man who seemingly vanished without a trace during a routine errand, leaving behind a family to grapple with his absence and the enduring uncertainty of his fate.
