In the late summer of 2016, a family visit in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, took a distressing turn, marking the beginning of a long and painful period of uncertainty for the family of James Daren Treadwell. On September 9th, the then 44-year-old was at a relative's home in the 5000 block of Louisiana Highway 117. Overcome with emotion about a family member's illness, he reportedly became upset and ran into the dense woods nearby. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and white tennis shoes, and possibly a black and green t-shirt. Treadwell, a resident of Rapides Parish, has not been seen or heard from since that day. The initial response to Treadwell's disappearance was swift and extensive. His mother and sister reported him missing to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office that same afternoon. In the days that followed, a significant search operation was launched. Volunteers and deputies from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office scoured the area. The search efforts were bolstered by air support from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office and assistance from the US Forest Service. Teams on the ground utilized all-terrain vehicles and search dogs, covering several hundred acres of the thick, challenging woodland terrain, but their efforts did not lead to locating Treadwell. Years have passed since James Daren Treadwell vanished into the woods of Natchitoches Parish. The case remains unresolved, leaving his family with unanswered questions. At the time of his disappearance, Treadwell was described as a white male, standing at 5'9" to 5'10" and weighing between 155 and 180 pounds, with black hair and green eyes. A notable distinguishing feature is a scar on his right forearm. The circumstances of his disappearance, stemming from a moment of emotional distress, have added a layer of tragedy to the case. Despite the initial large-scale search and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement, the lack of any new leads has left the investigation at a standstill, making it a difficult and enduring mystery for all involved.
