Danielle Brown, 21, went missing on February 5, 2010, from Tallahassee, Florida. She was last seen leaving her residence on Springhill Road around 8:30 p.m. with her ex-boyfriend, Elijah James III. Brown's final communication was a phone call at 11:35 p.m., in which she mentioned dropping James off at his mother's house. Three days later, on February 8, her car was discovered abandoned and burned at a refuse site in Pavo, Georgia. Blood evidence, including traces on the driver's seat, window, and in the trunk, pointed to foul play.
James, who had been seen driving her car, was arrested for arson in connection with the vehicle and later charged with her murder. During the investigation, further evidence, such as Brown's phone and fragments of her driver's license, were found discarded in Beachton, Georgia. In 2011, James was convicted of arson, and in 2013, he was convicted of second-degree murder based on DNA evidence linking him to a shovel stained with Brown's blood, which he purchased the day after she vanished.
Although Brown's remains have never been found, her case was reclassified as a homicide shortly after her disappearance, and Elijah James is serving a life sentence for her murder.
