In early 1971, in Shreveport, Louisiana, a 17-year-old high school senior named David Yeager was on the cusp of graduation from C.E. Byrd High School. He lived with his mother and brother on Lola Lane. On a day in February of that year, David informed his brother that he was heading to an event at Centenary College. He left his home on foot and was last seen in the 2600 block of Lola Lane. It is believed he may have intended to hitchhike the considerable distance to the college. At the time of his disappearance, he was thought to be wearing an off-white shirt and dark-colored pants. David Yeager never arrived at Centenary College and has not been seen or heard from since that day. His bank account, which contained $200, has remained untouched, and his cherished senior class ring was left behind at his home. His family has always maintained that he had no reason to run away, describing him as a happy young man who loved his family. He was an active student, involved in the library club, history club, and the debate team at his high school. The lack of any communication or activity on his bank account has led investigators to suspect that foul play was involved in his disappearance. The case of David Yeager's disappearance is one of Shreveport's oldest unsolved missing person cases. Over the years, there have been few leads. A few months after he vanished, a teenage girl reported seeing someone she believed to be David in a local park, who claimed to be living in another Louisiana city with plans to travel to New Orleans or Baton Rouge; however, his family found this sighting to be not credible. Despite the passage of decades, his family, particularly his cousin, has continued to advocate for him, ensuring his case remains in the public eye by creating a social media page and submitting DNA to national databases in the hope that he might one day be found. The Shreveport Police Department continues to hold the case open, and it has also been picked up by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The investigation has considered and ruled out several serial killers over the years, though no substantial evidence has ever emerged to definitively explain what happened to the young man who walked away from his home one winter day and vanished without a trace.
