In the summer of 2018, a young man from Emmonak, Alaska, named Samuel Jay Moses, traveled to the coastal Native village of Alakanuk to visit with friends. At 19 years old, Samuel, also known as Sam, was last seen on July 5th of that year. He was an American Indian / Alaska Native male with brown hair and hazel eyes, standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing around 169 pounds. When he vanished, he was believed to be wearing a black or brown hooded sweatshirt over a navy blue shirt, light blue denim jeans, and black Duluth work boots. His friendly visit to the small community marked the beginning of a heart-wrenching mystery when he failed to return home and all communication from him ceased. The circumstances surrounding Samuel's disappearance are unsettlingly sparse. The last time anyone reported seeing him, he was at the Alakanuk village dump. Accounts from that day suggest that he was in a "highly intoxicated" state, which has raised concerns for his well-being and safety. After he was last seen in that vulnerable condition, he has not been heard from or seen by anyone since. The days turned into weeks, and with no word from Samuel, the alarm was officially raised, prompting a report to be filed with the Alaska State Troopers on July 8, 2018. In the wake of his disappearance, searches were conducted in the area where Samuel was last spotted, but these efforts tragically yielded no clues as to his whereabouts. The trail seemed to go cold almost as soon as it began, leaving his family and community with an agonizing lack of answers. The Alaska State Troopers opened an investigation into his case, but years have passed without any significant developments being made public. This lack of information has left a void for his loved ones, who are still waiting for a resolution. The overview of this case is one of a young man who vanished under precarious circumstances, with very few details available to piece together the events of that day, leaving his case an active and unresolved missing persons investigation.
