Andrew 'Andy' James Kenney, a 52-year-old man from Clayton, New Jersey, was last seen by a neighbor on Saturday, October 27, 2018. His absence was officially reported two days later, on Monday, October 29, 2018, when county mental health workers visited his residence on 8th Avenue and found the front door wide open with no sign of Andrew. Investigators at the scene noted that there were no signs of foul play, as nothing in the home appeared to be disturbed or stolen. Andrew, who is described as a white male, approximately 5'6' tall and weighing 140 pounds with grey/white hair and green eyes, has a tattoo of a tiger overlooking a cliff on his right bicep.
The circumstances surrounding Andrew's disappearance were concerning from the outset. He is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and had not been taking his medication, which raised concerns that he could become violent if agitated.
Adding to the mystery, several personal items that he would typically have with him were left behind at his home. These included his cigarettes, despite being a heavy smoker, and a travel bag he usually took when planning to be away overnight. He did not own a vehicle, a cell phone, or a computer, making it difficult to trace his movements. A mountain bike that had been seen on his property about two weeks prior to his disappearance was also missing. Complicating the investigation further is the fact that Andrew has an identical twin brother who also resides in Clayton.
In January 2021, human remains were discovered in an abandoned building in Clayton, New Jersey. Through the efforts of the Doe Network, the remains were identified in May 2023 as those of Andrew James Kenney. The cause of his death has not been publicly stated. The discovery brought a somber conclusion to the search for the missing man, who had vanished more than two years earlier.
