In the autumn of 1975, a young 22-year-old mother named Carola Yvonne Davenport vanished from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was last seen on October 1st in the company of her boyfriend, Robert Wilkins, in the 7200 block of Devon Street. At the time of her disappearance, Carola was the mother of 11-month-old twins, a boy and a girl. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are unsettling, as she left behind all her personal belongings, including her clothing and her car. Perhaps most troubling is that she left her infant children, something highly out of character for a new mother. For reasons that remain unclear, Carola was not officially reported as a missing person until February 23, 1976, nearly five months after she was last seen. Her brother was the one who finally filed the report with the Philadelphia Police Department. Carola is described as a Black female with black hair and brown eyes. At the time she went missing, she stood between 5'4" and 5'6" tall and weighed approximately 120 to 130 pounds. She has several distinguishing physical features, including a fish-shaped birthmark and burn scars on her left arm and right hand. The lack of information regarding what she was wearing when she was last seen adds another layer of difficulty to the investigation. The passage of time has unfortunately not brought many answers, and details about Carola's personal life and profession remain scarce. The investigation into Carola's disappearance has been met with few leads over the decades. Both her boyfriend at the time, Robert Wilkins, and her son have since passed away. In the hopes of one day finding answers, both Carola's daughter and her brother have submitted their DNA to be entered into police databases. Despite these efforts, her case remains unsolved, one of the many cold cases in Philadelphia. The case of Carola Yvonne Davenport is a story of a young mother who vanished, leaving behind her entire life, most heartbreakingly her two infant children. The delay in reporting her missing created an initial hurdle for investigators, and the scarcity of information has made the search for answers a long and arduous journey for her remaining family.
