In the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a mother of two and U.S. Army veteran named Lisa Michelle Hatchell vanished on what should have been a day of celebration. On July 19, 2003, her 37th birthday, Lisa was last seen at approximately 10:00 p.m. outside the home she shared with her boyfriend in the vicinity of the 5400 block of Warrington Avenue. Witnesses reported that she had been in an argument with her boyfriend of 16 years over money just before she disappeared. Lisa, who had worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, has not been seen or heard from since that night. Her family notes that despite any personal struggles, it was highly uncharacteristic for her to be out of contact with them. The initial effort to report Lisa missing was met with difficulty. Her mother was reportedly unable to file an official missing person report with the Philadelphia Police Department until the summer of 2005, a full two years after she was last seen. This delay meant that a formal investigation, including questioning her boyfriend and searching their shared home, did not commence until years after her disappearance. Lisa's boyfriend did voluntarily take a lie-detector test, but the results were not made public. Over the years, there have been several unconfirmed sightings of Lisa in the Atlanta, Georgia area, a city where she had resided for a period in the early 1990s. These tips have provided a sliver of hope, though none have led to her location. Her mother, however, has expressed her belief that her daughter may have met with foul play. Lisa is described as a Black female with black hair and black eyes, standing at 5'4" and weighing around 135 pounds. At the time she went missing, her hair was styled in shoulder-length braids, though she was known to change her hairstyle and color frequently, often wearing weaves or braids. She has several distinct physical features, including double-pierced ears, a small scar under her chin, a birthmark on her outer right thigh, and very small scars on both ankles from insect bites. She also has a previously fractured left ankle. She may use the nicknames Lisa Cotton or Lisa Henderson. The circumstances of her disappearance remain unknown, and her case is an unsolved and heart-wrenching mystery for her children and loved ones who continue to await answers.
