In the spring of 2010, a 41-year-old mother of eight named Jeanette DuPriest vanished from her West Philadelphia neighborhood. She was last seen on the evening of April 1st, or possibly in the early hours of April 2nd. Jeanette, who also went by the nickname 'Nette', was a regular patron at a local establishment called Wanda's, located at 54th and Springfield. On the night she disappeared, she was seen leaving the bar around closing time with some acquaintances. Following her departure from the bar, she reportedly visited two houses on Belmar Terrace before she was never heard from again. At the time of her disappearance, Jeanette resided on Beaumont Avenue, not far from where she was last seen. There were conflicting reports about what she was wearing that night; some witnesses described her in blue jeans and a blue striped shirt, while others recalled her wearing white pants and a black shirt. She was also said to be carrying a purse and wearing distinctive jewelry, including gold figure-eight earrings and bracelets on her right arm. Jeanette was described by her family as a devoted mother who would not have willingly abandoned her eight children. Her family's concern grew when they realized she had left behind her medication for depression. While she had a history of drug abuse, she was reportedly not using drugs at the time she went missing. The initial belief by some authorities was that she might have had a relapse, but as time stretched on with no contact and no activity on her bank accounts, the focus of the investigation shifted. The prolonged silence led investigators to suspect that she may have been a victim of foul play. Her sister, Tracy Steward, has spoken publicly about the family's relentless search for answers, stating, "Every day I'm pounding somebody's door, somebody's phone, looking for my sister...I just want you back home with your family." The case of Jeanette DuPriest remains an open and painful chapter for her loved ones. Described as a Black / African American female, standing 5'11" and weighing around 195 pounds, with blond or strawberry hair and brown eyes, she had several distinct tattoos that her family hoped would aid in her identification. These included the word 'DOC' on the right side of her neck, a flower on her left leg, the name 'Jeanette' on her arm, 'Irving' with a rose on her back, and 'Sexy' above her right breast. She also had piercings in both ears and on the right side of her nose. The Philadelphia Police Department has investigated her disappearance, and her family has provided DNA samples in the hopes that scientific advancements might one day lead to a breakthrough. Years have passed without any concrete answers, leaving a void in the lives of her children and extended family who continue to hope for resolution and to one day learn what happened to Jeanette.
