James Junhee Goh, a 23-year-old of Korean descent, disappeared on February 24, 2008, in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. On that day, Goh was near the Point Vicente Lighthouse, walking on the rocks with two friends. As they explored the area, a large wave struck the group, sweeping one of Goh's friends into the ocean. Goh heroically jumped into the water and managed to rescue his friend.
However, as he tried to exit the water himself, a second wave pulled Goh back into the ocean, and he was swept away. Despite extensive search efforts, which included helicopters and rescue teams, no trace of Goh was ever found. His body is presumed lost at sea.
Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Goh had moved to California, where he graduated from the University of California, Irvine, in 2006. He is remembered as a brave individual who lost his life while trying to save someone else.
